CARPAL TUNNEL |

Definition
Refers to signs and symptoms caused by the compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel. Typical symptoms include paresthesia and pain in the distribution of the median nerve (thumb, index, middle and lateral half of the ring finger). Strength may be lost into the hand as well.

MOI Inversion
– Can be caused by several situations
- Any decrease in the space of the carpal tunnel
- Repeated wrist flexion/extension cause an inflammation of the tendons and decreases the space in the tunnel
- Improper ergonomics (in a flexed or extended wrist position for extended periods of time)
- Health problems (tumour’s, ganglions, etc)
Treatment
– Determine cause of Carpal Tunnel Symptoms
- Avoid aggravating activities
- Decrease inflammation of tendons through the tunnel (Ice, Rest)
- Physiotherapy/Athletic Therapy to stretch and strengthen affected muscles
- Brace and support to keep wrist in neutral position during aggravating activity and during the night
