GOLFER'S ELBOW
Definition - Irritation of the wrist flexor group of muscles at their common attachment
at the elbow. This causes an inflammation of the medial epicondyle and creates
pain at the elbow with gripping motions and resisted wrist flexion.

Method Of Injury - Repeated eccentric contractions of the wrist flexor muscles cause an irritation
of the medial epicondyle
- Most prevalent in throwing sports and golfing
- Repeated rapid flexion and pronation of the forearm
- Direct trauma may cause an irritation
Treatment
- Initial treatment should follow the PIER principle (Pressure, Ice, Elevation,
Rest)
- Avoiding activities that aggravate elbow
- Physiotherapy/Athletic Therapy to stretch and strengthen involved musculature
- Brace/support to relieve stress on the elbow, and absorb shock and vibration
irritating the medial epicondyle
