Patellofemoral

Definition
– Pain in the front of the knee, usually the pain is felt under or around the knee cap. 

Method Of Injury
– The exact cause of PFS is unknown, however, there are several different ways in which one can develop PFS:
1) too much activity, too soon
2) injury to the knee
3) overweight
4) patella (kneecap) not tracking properly
5) muscle imbalance
6) anatomical development



Treatment
– Avoid activities that aggravate your knee (sitting for long period’s of time, deep squats, etc.)
- Icing to control inflammation and pain
- Athletic/Physical therapy to help stretch and strengthen the proper muscle groups
- Bracing/taping to promote proper tracking of the patella
