Pregnancy Low Back Pain |

Definition
– Pain in the low back during pregnancy is
usually due to the sacroiliac joint. The sacro-iliac (SI) joint
consists of the sacrum (tailbone) and the ilium (hips). The pain
is usually felt during the pregnancy period.
Method Of Injury
– Weight gained in the abdomen due to the baby causes a rotation
in the pelvis
- Increase in hormones preparing the body for childbirth causes
a laxity in the ligaments of the SIJ
Treatment
– PIER protocol will help to alleviate the symptoms (Pressure,
Ice, Elevation, Rest)
- Pain usually will dissipate after pregnancy
- Brace SIJ, and support belly to decrease stress on the SI
